Frequently Asked Questions
What are the rules?
If you're new to bike parks or BMX please review the bike park etiquette below.
Always check the trail status on our website BEFORE you go. Like, right before you go.
Look before you leap! Always walk the track before you ride. Even if others are riding it. Check for branches, rocks, pine cones, holes, etc.
If you see a hazard, contact us on FB, IG, or email us at percyraynorbmx@gmail.com.
Don't modify or change any of the jumps or trails. If something requires a tool (shovel, rake, broom) please don’t use it. All maintenance and construction needs to be performed by trained CLIMB volunteers in accordance to our risk management plan. If you see a hazard please contact us.
Don't remove tarps, ride on tarps, or ride a closed trail. Even if the trail looks safe, hidden hazards may exist or you could risk further damaging the trail, which causes it to be closed for longer.
Do not water the track.
We're all volunteer here. If you see someone working ask to lend a hand.
All of the trails were designed to offer progression between features. If you find a particular trail difficult (not making it up the jump, stopping on top of the jump, etc.) please visit some of the smaller trails and work your way up.
Don't walk on the jumps.
Take garbage with you when you leave.
Thank you for reading and helping to make this park fun and safe for everyone!

Is the park free to use?
Yes! The trails at Percy Raynor are absolutely free to ride. However, if you enjoy this park please consider donating your time and/or money to help support us. The costly insurance C.L.I.M.B. is required to have in order to maintain this park needs to be funded entirely by fundraising and donations. Please help us keep this park alive. A one year membership to C.L.I.M.B would help greatly. Donations can also be made on the C.L.I.M.B website. Thank you so much for your support!
Our trails are maintained 100% by volunteer effort from the community. Please check out the work party schedule on Instagram or Facebook and consider helping out. No experience necessary, although you must be 16 years of age or older. We thank you for your support!
Are helmets required?
Yes! Helmets are required for your safety. Full face helmets provide the most protection. Leatt brand neck braces in combination with a full face helmet will provide a high level of protection to minimize neck/spinal injuries. Please also consider other protective gear: eye protection, knee/elbow pads, gloves, shin guards, chest/neck protectors, etc.
Riding bikes on manmade features in this park is an inherently risky activity. Wear a helmet and other safety gear. Ride in control and within your ability level. You are responsible for your own safety. Accidents can happen on the first lap. Look before you leap!

It is up to the rider to use their own judgement in determining the appropriate size and type of bicycle suitable for each feature of the park.

Welcome to the wonderful world of bicycle motocross! Nowadays, there are many categories and sub-categories of bicycles designed for different types of riding. There are many factors to consider when choosing a specific type of bicycle such as age of rider, physical condition/size, type of intended activity (jumping, cardio, endurance, etc.). Bike types are typically categorized into three main types, BMX, Dirt Jumper, and Mountain Bikes. (We're excluding road bikes and other types of bikes not suitable to ride at Percy Raynor.)
BMX
"Bicycle Motocross" bicycles are commonly offered in 20" (diameter) wheel sizes or less commonly 24" wheels (cruiser class). Modern trends and innovations are introducing other sizes of wheels such as the 22" wheel BMX bike. BMX bikes are designed specifically for different types of riding: dirt jumping, park (ramps), street (grinding), racing (Shoreham BMX), or casual riding (P.K. Rippers). If considering a BMX bike, most trails found at Percy Raynor Bike Park would be generally most suitable for dirt jumping and trail/race types of BMX bikes.
Mountain Bikes
Mountain bikes are generally divided into four main types of riding: Cross Country, Trail, Mountain & Enduro, and Downhill. While most of the features of Percy Raynor can be ridden on any of these types of mountain bikes, matching the type of trail to the type of bike would provide a more enjoyable experience.
Dirt Jumpers
This fairly new type of bicycle is a hybrid between mountain bike and BMX bike. They are offered in 26" wheel sizes (some in 24") which provide the appearance of a mountain bike, although the frame is designed with BMX geometry to give it the feel of a BMX bike.
How do I prepare my bicycle (and myself) to ride at Percy Raynor?
Making sure your bicycle fits you and is the correct type for your style of riding, and wearing protective gear is extremely import for ensuring your safety and enjoyment while riding at Percy Raynor Park. These are general recommendations, however it's best to consult a professional bicycle store associate.
Make sure your bicycle is properly maintained and inspected by a certified bicycle professional and perform regular inspections and maintenance.
Following the rules of BMX racing, remove all reflectors, chainrings, kickstands from your bicycle while riding Percy Raynor. (Please remember to put them back on when you leave the park).
Do not remove your brakes. You absolutely need brakes while riding your bike.
Wear protective gear such as helmets, knee, elbow, shin pads, etc. and proper footwear designed for bicycle riding.
Ride within your limits. All features of this park are designed to offer a natural progression for riders of any skill level. Start small and work your way up to the bigger and more technical features of the trail.
Be friendly and courteous to people you meet on the trail. We will not tolerate bullying, trash-talking, peer pressure, etc. at this park.
